We are so spoilt for choice when it comes to breaking away for a weekend here in Cape Town, but still being close enough to it all as well.
My boyfriend and I were looking for a place to go for a romantic winter weekend getaway, that was easy to find, easy to book, and the perfect place to just feel relaxed. We didn’t want a conventional hotel either, and just wanted something where we could feel relaxed.
Afristay is the place for this. Through Afristay, you can not only browse various hotels, villas, resorts, and guest houses in the area of your choice; but if you’re completed swamped or overwhelmed, they have a customer service team on hand that can recommend places suited for you and what you want.
I knew we wanted to spend a weekend at the beach. Somewhere away from the city, somewhere close enough but still far enough, and somewhere different. I just knew Camps Bay was the place for our romantic getaway, and through Afristay, I was able to select the dates we wanted to go away, and browse hotels and villas that were available during these dates and in my price range too. And just like that I found Retreat on Hove, and the booking process was an absolute dream! I enquired, received a quote, and my weekend was securely booked and paid within a day. Afristay have an abundance of different places to book, and it only made me more excited to use them in the future as well.
Retreat on Hove is a luxurious villa with 4 rooms to choose from, each boasting something unique to the room. There’s a Garden View Retreat room, Panoramic Retreat room, Sun Retreat room, and the room we had – Ocean View Retreat. A room overlooking the ocean and Lion’s Head. The villa has a pool, outside lounge area, inside lounge area, and cinema. It was a dream relaxing on our bed, with the ocean and mountains right there. Our room had views overlooking the ocean and Lion’s Head, and was perfect for a winter afternoon with the sun filling the room and giving that warmth we needed.
There’s so much to do in Camps Bay as well. We walked to the beach both days and spent so much time walking up and down the strip. From bars, to cocktails, to restaurants. There’s something for everyone in Camps Bay! Of course we couldn’t try everything but for coffee and a croissant, make sure you try Maison J (a collaboration between Pick ‘n Pay and Jason Bakery), for cocktails there’s Bilboa Bar, for burgers you can pop into Hard Rock Café, and for a drink to end off the evening, Dizzy’s is the bar on the corner for this.
